I have a German Shepard/ Black Lab mix who is 7 months old and he likes to chew things up when we leave him home. For example if we go shopping and we are gone for more then 30 minutes he chews up whatever he can. Is there anyway that i might be able to break this habit. He is a very active puupy when we are home. he plays with the kids as well as going running with me. So if someone could possibly help me with this any advice will be greatly apprciated.

Confinement may be an option for you. Maybe you could fence off a section of your house with some baby gates or maybe you could put him in a crate while you are away from home.

Take all the things you don't want chewed up out of this area and throw a few stuffed kong dog toys in to keep him occupied.

Read some more ideas here - stop puppy chewing.

All the best with your dog.

I have a German Shepard too! He's 117 lbs and also chews everything in sight. You can probably imagine what my house used to look like when I get home. The way I got him to stop chewing things, is I would dedicate 30 minutes of my time to play tug of war with a thick rope. I would wear him out until he had to rest. That did it for me.
